My two cents

Okay, so i've been watching shows and reading a lot about travel lately. Not just normal travel though, space travel. Yup. My thinking is (and i'm sure they already have people on it but we just don't hear about it) that we should stop wasting time with speed and start working on how to tear holes in space. why should we do that? Einsteins theory of relativity states that in order to go the speed of light you would need an infinite amount of energy... So to get 1 atom to the speed of light you would need a fuel supply that is from one side of the universe to the other. Another thing to worry about is that as you approach the speed of light you (or the atom) gain more mass, so true light speed would make you infinitely massive, and i dont think that sounds pleasant. Also, as you near the speed of light (this has been scientifically proven by the way) relative time slows down. Meaning that if a group of astronauts went on a mission to the closest star (Proxima Centauri) going 90% the speed of light (we'll say 90% because that's theoretically possible), while this is good because it would only seem like weeks, months or even a couple years to the astronauts.. multiple times that amount of time would have passed here on earth. Reason i say it would take weeks, months etc. to travel over 4 light years (instead of 5+ years due to only going 90% the speed of light [c]) is because of time moving slower. Yes i realize i just said that but i want to make sure that it's understood. This means a return mission to Earth is.. kind of pointless? I mean.. if we sent someone there right now, and we had the technology to get them to 90% light speed right now, and they returned from Proxima just after landing, thousands of years could have passed here on earth. Who knows what kind of state humanity would be in. culture shock alone would be insane.  So by tearing these holes in space we'd be able to traverse insane amounts of distance "faster" than the speed of light, but  while not actually going at the speed of light.. Think of it like a race from your house to china. You're on a plane flying directly to china.. fastest way possible right? I'm in this ship that has a worm hole generator that would (for the purpose of the example) "dig" a hole straight through the earth. See what im getting at? Yup. Im going to end this now so Jon can read it, cause he said he wanted to.
